Reservations in Banking exams

There are reservations in banking exams in India, similar to other government job recruitment processes. These reservations apply to various categories like Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), and Persons with Disabilities (PWD). These reservations are designed to provide equal opportunities and fair representation to candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Reservation Categories in Banking Exams

1.       Scheduled Castes (SC)

o    Candidates from the SC category are given reservation in terms of age relaxation, cut-off marks, and vacancies.

2.      Scheduled Tribes (ST)

o    ST candidates also benefit from age relaxation, relaxed cut-offs, and reserved vacancies.

3.      Other Backward Classes (OBC) – Non-Creamy Layer

o    OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates receive 3 years of age relaxation and have a certain percentage of seats reserved in each bank's recruitment process.

o    Note that candidates from the OBC Creamy Layer do not receive reservation benefits.

4.      Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)

o    The EWS category was introduced to provide reservation benefits to economically disadvantaged individuals who do not fall under the SC/ST/OBC categories.

o    Candidates under this category get 10% reservation in jobs and have certain advantages in terms of cut-offs and vacancies.

5.      Persons with Disabilities (PWD)

o    PWD candidates receive reservations as per their specific category of disability (e.g., visual impairment, hearing impairment, etc.).

o    They receive age relaxation of up to 10 years and may have some exam accommodations like extra time, scribes, etc.

Age Relaxation

In addition to reserved vacancies, candidates in reserved categories receive age relaxation:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
  • PWD: 10 years
  • Ex-Servicemen/Commissioned Officers: 5 years
  • Widows, Divorced Women: 9 years

Reserved Seats in Banking Exams

In banking recruitment exams like IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, SBI PO, and RBI Grade B, a specific percentage of vacancies are reserved for candidates from SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PWD categories. The reservation percentage can vary slightly from year to year based on government regulations and the number of vacancies.

Relaxation in Cut-Offs

Candidates belonging to reserved categories may also have lower cut-off marks in both the Prelims and Mains exams. This gives them an advantage in terms of qualifying for the next stage of the recruitment process.

In summary, reservations in banking exams ensure equal opportunities for candidates from different social and economic backgrounds, helping to create a more inclusive workforce in public sector banks.
